WCBA Annual Awards
🏆 WCBA Annual Awards Announcement
On behalf of the entire baseball community and the WCBA executive, we would like to congratulate the following winners of the Coach, Umpire, and Volunteer of the Year awards within Western Counties.
Coach of the Year – Ryan Nutma, Wyoming/Sarnia
In a time when organizations struggle to find not just help, but coaches with a deep knowledge and passion for the game of baseball, Ryan Nutma is so gracious as to lend his lifetime of baseball experience to three Rep ball teams within Western Counties:
- Wyoming 13u Rep
- Sarnia 15u Rep
- Wyoming 18u Rep
Every single night, Ryan is at some ballpark in Southwestern Ontario, sharing his lifetime of baseball knowledge in a clear, concise, and relatable manner to these kids. His expertise, passion, and knowledge of the game may not be surpassed by anyone within our borders. His impact on the youth in this community cannot be overstated.
It is one thing to hold down a full-time job, while raising a family and spending every single night at some ballpark somewhere, but to do it with the passion and enthusiasm that he does is simply not matched.
This passion for the game and for the betterment of the kids on these teams can be summed up on a Wednesday night in June, at Blackwell Park in Sarnia.
After a particularly rough outing, a completely distraught 15u player went for his post-performance poles. Instead of simply sending this player off alone to wallow in his thoughts, Ryan joined him. For no less than a half dozen poles, Ryan spent whatever energy he may have had left to help this player process and improve upon what transpired that evening.
Simply inspiring.
Congratulations Ryan.
Umpire of the Year – Lane Vandenoweland, Alvinston
Despite being in his first year as an umpire with Alvinston Minor Baseball, Lane was nominated for Umpire of the Year.
With a passion for the game, his reliability, and immediate impact on those on and off the field, Lane has asserted himself as a go-to for the heavy workload that comes with the territory!
Congratulations Lane.
Volunteer of the Year – Ginny Richardson, Sarnia
Ginny has been a dedicated volunteer with the Sarnia Braves, now the Brigade, for 10+ years. Her commitment to fundraising, especially through her work at the bingo hall, has helped bring in thousands of dollars to support youth baseball in our community.
She’s carried out this work quietly and reliably, often with little need for direction or recognition. Jinny’s steady presence and willingness to help have made a real difference, and her contributions continue to benefit players and families year after year.
Congratulations Ginny!
